چکیده

We discuss an effective numerical method for solving the transport equations for cosmic ray nucleons in the atmosphere. It is demonstrated that the nucleon attenuation lengths are strongly energy and depth dependent due to the non-power-law behavior of the primary spectrum, growth of the total inelastic cross sections with energy, and scaling violation in the nucleon-nucleus interactions. The numerical results are compared with the available experimental data.

Characterization of the IRSN neutron multisphere spectrometer (HERMEIS) at European standard calibration fields

The Institute for Radiological Protection and Nuclear Safety (IRSN) has developed a new spectrometry system for neutron energies from 10−9 MeV to 10 GeV. This high energy range multisphere extended IRSN system (HERMEIS) is a high gas pressure3He-based Bonner spheres set. It is adapted to low neutron fluence rate measurements and one of its main application concerns the determination of cosmic-r...

Evaluation of cross sections for nucleons up to 3 GeV on C

We have performed an evaluation of cross sections on C for both neutron and proton with energies between 20 MeV and 3 GeV. The evaluation is based on measured data as well as predictions from nuclear model calculations and some systematics. The results are compared with available experimental data and the LA150 evaluation. Thick target neutron production spectra for proton incident on carbon ar...

Effects of Solar Modulation on the Low-energy Cosmic-ray Antiproton/proton Ratio

We examine the transport of cosmic-ray protons and anitprotons from local interstellar space through the interplanetary medium to Earth and discuss the resulting e†ects on the low-energy antiproton/proton ratio at 1 AU. We Ðnd that the antiproton/proton ratio at energies above D3 GeV is a useful diagnostic of cosmic-ray transport in the Galaxy. However, at energies below D1 GeV the expected rat...

Impact of the Energy of the Proton Driver on Muon Production

Simulations studies have been carried out to examine the impact of the energy of the proton driver on muon production. The muon flux is calculated as a function of proton energy over a wide range, which covers the energies at the existing muon and neutron facilities worldwide. The muon and higher energy pion yields are normalised per beam current and accelerator power. The case of a higher ener...
